Compared to
last year's visit to Wisley Gardens, we saw significantly fewer butterflies this year, both in terms of number of species and number of individuals. Whether it's because of the ongoing drought, or whether it's because the hot summer so far have caused butterflies to 'live faster' and so die sooner, I don't know, but it was very noticeable. Even though we saw ten species, the numbers for most species were very low.
Damselflies and dragonflies didn't seem affected at all, and we saw ten species, one more than last year.
