Hillier Gardens, once again

Although the forecast was for thick cloud cover all day, we decided to try our luck again at Hillier Gardens, following our visit back in April, our first proper butterflying day of the year.

The forecast was pretty much spot on, but every once in a while, and then only briefly, the cloud cover thinned noticeably, the temperature went up, and the butterflies carefully came out a bit. Never for long, and never in high numbers, though.

Despite numbers being low, we still saw 13 butterfly species, our second-highest total at Hillier Gardens! In addition, we saw five species of odo's. Full tables below (one = 1; few = 2-4; several = 5-9; many = 10+):

And, as a bonus, we also saw a hummingbird hawk-moth! As I wrote late last year, hawk-moths are honorary butterflies for me. So a much better day after all than originally anticipated.
